POSITION SUMMARY:
Americares is seeking to assess and strengthen capacity for gender and protection mainstreaming in our global programs.



Americares provides health-focused services ranging from direct clinical care at Americares clinics to technical assistance with partner clinics and health systems and emergency response work. Americares is recruiting a Gender and Protection Consultant to advise on and support gender and protection mainstreaming for this wide range of health-focused programming.

Reporting to the Americares MHPSS Technical Advisor and coordinating actively with other stakeholders throughout the organization, the consultant will assess Americares current gender and protection mainstreaming policies, strategies and monitoring systems, The consultant will advise on and support approaches for assessing and identifying priority needs and gaps to strengthen gender and protection mainstreaming within existing programs, and support the identification and development of external and internal staff trainings and internal policies.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, & DELIVERABLES:
Potential duties, responsibilities, and deliverables include but may not be limited to:
-Develop a brief primer on the current standards and expectations regarding gender and protection mainstreaming within humanitarian and development contexts – differentiated by major donor groups as appropriate
-Review relevant Americares internal policies (i.e. project management, M&E, MHPSS interventions and other areas) and offer recommendations for how to better integrate gender and protection lenses.
-Recommend external (online) trainings on gender and protection topics that would meet the learning needs of various categories of Americares staff (i.e. teams that work directly with patients, programming teams, leadership, etc.).
-Review and revise Americares current GBV-awareness training and offer recommendations for how to tailor a base training to different contexts and trainee groups.
-Develop and/or review and revise other tools (assessment tools, monitoring checklists, etc.) to strengthen gender and protection mainstreaming in project design. Implementation, and monitoring and evaluation, including in delivery of clinical services at Americares and partner clinics.
-Lead relevant stakeholders to assess 2-3 core projects – using model assessment / monitoring tools – regarding gender and protection mainstreaming strengths and opportunity areas.
-Support overall strategic design of Americares gender and protection mainstreaming work.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-At least 10+ years of progressive experience in gender or protection work in humanitarian contexts
-An advanced degree in gender studies, social work, public health or a related field
-Significant experience with gender and protection mainstreaming in the health sector. Extensive knowledge of the protection risks associated with healthcare provision in humanitarian, emergency-response and low resource contexts as well as the specific risks and barriers people face due to their gender identity.
-Significant experience working in resource-limited environments with extensive time spent working with marginalized urban and/or rural communities.
-Experience with organizational capacity building and developing trainings, systems and policies that improve gender and protection integration.
-Excellent communication skills and strong written and spoken English language skills.
-Experience working on teams from multiple geographies
-Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
-Strong commitment to health equity, intersectionality, inclusion, participation and human rights.
