Peace Winds Japan (PWJ; https://peace-winds.org/en/) is a non-governmental humanitarian organization dedicated to the support of people in distress and threatened by conflict, poverty, or other turmoil. PWJ has been operational in Iraq since its establishment in 1996, currently implementing humanitarian programs in, among other countries/regions, northern Iraq focusing on refugees, IDPs and returnees in various sectors of shelter, livelihood, WASH, and health including COVID-19 response with the funds from the Japanese and US governments and UN organizations. PWJ is seeking an experienced staff-member willing to engage in humanitarian projects in support of people in needs in Iraq.
- Position: Program Coordinator (full-time contract)
- Duty station: Duhok, Kurdistan Region, Iraq
- Period: 1 year (extendable), starting immediately
- Compensation: Salary and benefits/allowances in accordance with the organization policy
- Take lead and manage the overall implementation of program activities (emergency, recovery and development projects in refugee/IDP camps and returnees’ communities);
- Coordinate internally in the areas of administration and staff management;
- Coordinate externally with the local authorities, diplomatic missions, and other organizations and stakeholders; and
- Develop strategies and proposals for new programs in coordination with the project staff and in communication with donors,
Education background and experiences:
- At least Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (desirably in social science, development study, business management, peace building or related fields);
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experiences as a program coordinator in the humanitarian/recovery context;
- Experience of working in complex and volatile contexts;
- Experience of program implementation as a UN partner and with funds from Japanese and other governmental or other international funds (ECHO, USAID, OFDA, etc.); and
- Knowledge and practicing of the Humanitarian Principles and Core Humanitarian Standards.
- Strong skills in management, proposal/budget development, institutional fundraising, diplomacy, and representation;
- Professionally proficient in spoken and written in English;
- Demonstrated ability to carry out work independently with attention to details;
- Demonstrated ability to form constructive engagement with project stakeholders, donors; HQ in Japan and project staff through good teamwork;
- Excellent skills in interpersonal, oral/written communications and presentation, and
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills.
- Flexible and proactive with much hospitality;
- Experience of working in the field of livelihood and vocational training;
- Demonstrated competence in multi-tasking, working in a fast-paced environment, strategic thinking, and delivery of measurable results; and
- Kurdish, Arabic and/or Japanese language skills.
