The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) is a private diplomacy organisation founded on the principles of humanity, impartiality and independence. Its mission is to help prevent, mitigate, and resolve armed conflict through dialogue and mediation. HD is currently looking for a:
Project Officer Iraq
Based in Beirut, Lebanon
Start date: As soon as possible
HD’s mediation efforts in Iraq aim to promote the stability of the country through inclusive and sustainable dialogue between local actors and the Iraqi Government.
The Project Officer will be hired for a temporary period of 6 months (which could be extended based on funding availability) and will contribute to Iraq projects by supporting the Project Manager both administratively and substantively, closely following up the implementation of the project and monitoring the projects’ compliance with the strategic framework and internal procedures and policies.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Officer will have the following responsibilities:
Support the Program Manager in coordinating the day-to-day management of the project;
Draft project/fundraising proposals, budgets and narrative/review reports;
Contribute to overseeing the work of project consultants;
Monitor the political situation in Iraq and the region to determine their impact on the projects, as well as research and analyze subjects related to the projects;
Work closely with the Grant Management and Reporting Officer on the budget and financial reporting and support the creation of forecasts and budgets;
Organise meetings and events in the MENA region and elsewhere, in collaboration with the Logistics Coordinator;
Conceptualise and formulate meeting agendas as well as draft meeting reports and mission notes;
Contribute ideas and suggestions to the project operations;
Help maintain and strengthen links with related parties and partners, including donors and high-level external parties;
Undertake assessments and explore possible new initiatives in the region;
Carry out periodic visits to Iraq and the region as needed and maintain a good working knowledge of the facts on the ground;
Draft, review and update the security guidelines for the Iraq team for all trips to be undertaken in the MENA region and ensure their compliance with these guidelines
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a relevant area, such as international relations, law, history, political science or equivalent;
Knowledge of and commitment to conflict resolution and addressing humanitarian issues with at least 5 years of related experience;
Very good knowledge of Arabic and a strong command of written and spoken English are mandatory;
Structured, analytical and well-organised;
Ability to work with short deadlines and under stressful conditions;
Strong knowledge of the region and its politics.
Personality: The successful applicant should possess good interpersonal and organizational skills. A flexible team player, s/he must be detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task under tight deadlines.
